Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Primary Function
The Licensed Vocational Nurse performs general nursing procedures, direct care and training as dictated by the individuals' health care needs. Performs nursing procedures such as administering medications and treatments including oral medications, injections, urinary catheterizations, vital signs and first aide as authorized within the scope of work. Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team and contributes to the development of the Individual Support Plan. The LVN may function as lead staff on the shift and may supervise Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). Responsible for ensuring that any suspicion of or knowledge of suspected abuse is reported in accordance with the law and program policies "Mandated Reporter" (SOC 341).

Education/Experience
Possess a valid, active license from the State of California to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Must hold or else complete a DOJ and FBI fingerprint and criminal clearance. Successful completion of DSP1 and DSP2 preferred. Must have at least one year experience working in a program serving persons with developmental disabilities. Current valid CA driver's license required.

Working Environment/Hazards
On-going interaction with individuals. Ability to work in a variety of environments and settings. Hours of operation is 24-7; AM-shift, PM-shift, and NOC-shift. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment.

• Assist students with career search practices, including conducting research, resume and cover letter writing, telephone and interviewing skills, industry etiquette, etc.
• Organize and maintain Career Resource Area
• Represent the Career Development Department to prospective students at monthly Open House presentations (one Saturday per month)
