Receptionist/Assistant (Overland Park, Kansas)
Because the position requires extensive training, we are not looking for a person that is interested in a short-term position (a few months). Our hopes are that we will find a person that will be with us for years to come.
Full time 8:00 to 4:00 position, Monday-Friday

In our office, the assistant/receptionist does not just transfer calls & take messages. Actually, they usually end up transferring very few calls each day. They determine who the caller is, look up the corresponding information on the computer, read the notes there, make determinations based on the information, and based upon who the caller is, and then discuss in detail, with the caller the information that pertains to them. This can include giving balances off our spreadsheet, and sharing other specifics about the case. In addition to answering the phones, this person also handles many other time-sensitive, and equally important clerical duties.
Obviously, this requires the employee to learn how a civil suit works, and how our office handles many, many, many aspects of it. We have determined that to be successful in this position, a person needs to have a good memory, refer to the expansive notebook of notes when they need to refresh their memory, recognize when they are dealing with a situation that they haven't handled before, so they can ask for help, work efficiently to be able to handle a multitude of duties, follow directions, take correction easily, have good basic math skills, be adaptable, troubleshoot, be able to explain a process, have good typing skills, be able to stay calm during every call, and have an excellent attendance record.
When we hire someone, they are introduced to the procedures, asked to study them, and asked questions about them until they have a good understanding of the processes. They will also sit with the current receptionist, and listen to how that person handle the calls, and learn all of their other duties. After a period of time, we will want the person to take over the speaking part of the calls, and the other hands-on duties, as the current receptionist assists. Then, we will want the person to be able to take some of the easier calls and handling the other duties, completely by themselves, to start the process of knowing which they have the knowledge and experience to handle, and which ones have different aspects, for which they need to ask for additional training. This will help the person to be able to build up their knowledge base, thereby being able to work independently most of the time, and they will be asking fewer and fewer questions. However, in our office, we expect that an employee will never stop learning, because there is so much knowledge to be learned, and so many different circumstances.

3. Have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred (Companion).
4. Have a CNA Certificate or Nursing License (Kansas and/or Missouri) in good standing (Personal Care Attendant).
5. Have a current CPR card.
6. Have a negative TB skin test within ten weeks or chest x-ray within six months prior to hire date.
7. Have current auto insurance and a valid driver’s license transporting clients.
