Infield voip technician (Des Moines)

Linx Communications is a VoIP phone provider headquartered in Provo, Utah and is providing affordable VoIP phone service to Des Moines and the surrounding areas through direct sales. This position is expected to start around the first week of May 2012.

Infield technicians are needed to go to customer's homes and help them with their setup. Our process is as follows: we ship customers their equipment that is needed to get their new phone service working. If they are unable to set it up themselves they will call our in house tech support. A majority of issues will be solved by our tech support team, for those issues that can't be resolved over the phone; we will send you, the technician to go out and set them up or fix any issues that we can't over the phone. The infield technicians work closely with in house tech support staff to ensure the job is being done to the client's and company's satisfaction.

This position is considered part time simply because there will probably not be a steady amount of jobs throughout the day. We are willing to work with your other work/school schedules but those who can work Saturdays will be considered for the position with higher priority. Most of our infield technicians hold other jobs or are self employed doing similar work.

This position is a very independent one. If you have problems working on your own and without supervision, please do not apply. You will report to a local area office to get equipment/paperwork and to drop off defective equipment and completed paperwork. You must be responsible and reliable; and a lack of such can result in lost pay and the position itself.

The pay is piece rate and you will be hired as an independent contractor. The pay will start out as follows:
- $30 per service call
- $20 for a back feed
- $0.22/mile of travel from the local office to the service call and back to the local office

There is no guarantee of the amount of work that will be available. We estimate about 4-5 service calls/week average. Each service call should be less than an hour depending on the situation.

This position is a good match for students studying IT, networking or anyone else knowledgeable in these fields. You must be knowledgeable with computers in general and more specifically with routers and modems and how to login and configure each. Those who have previous experience installing for an ISP or cable internet /phone provider would do well in this position. Occasional DSL modem setup will be required. You must have and use your own laptop and some basic phone tools which will be explained if you are selected. Installation equipment and supplies will be provided.

Good customer service skills are a must and we will be doing background checks on all potential hires.
